There is this exuberant, flourishing and at the same time silver-tongued sound, there is this enormous homogeneity of the musical action, there is this stupendous virtuosity of all participants, which is always based on sustainable mental work.

These three do not only play perfectly together for all this insanely fast tempo. There's also - and especially those - small accelerandi in the piano, and the strings still know exactly when the piano will finish its wild downward run and what sound intensity the pianist will move on with. These are the surprises and finely tuned changes that I mentioned earlier. There's not much for me to add, really: these recordings are proper earcatchers.

The very first bars of the piano trio No 1 D minor leave the listener already speechless...whoever does not feel moved...whoever does not feel deeply touched listening to these interpretations should not hear Mendelssohn at all.
